Washington Football Team to Release QB Alex Smith

Early this morning Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported via Twitter that Comeback Player of the Year and starting quarterback Alex Smith. As I predicted in my "Stars That Could Be On the Move" post, Alex Smith is an obvious move for the WFT financially. Smith has a $24.4 million cap hit in a year where the cap has shrunken and after the Heinicke extension this seemed like a move we were just waiting to see happen. Still, something doesn't feel right about Alex Smith being cut. The miracle man himself came back from a life-threatening injury and played professional football again. I believe we all would have felt better had Smith retired and closed the door on his NFL journey, expect teams such as the New York Jets and Chicago Bears to go after this Quarterback when free agency opens up on March 17th.
