NFL+, Julio Jones Signs with Bucs, and Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Destinations

NFL Launches NFL+ Streaming Platform

Earlier this week the NFL announced its new streaming platform to replace DirectTV's Sunday Ticket and Gamepass. This service has to be possibly the worst thing the NFL has ever provided. With your, albeit affordable, subscription you get to watch all your favorite in-market games that are already available for free on your local TV station, and even better you are able to stream solely on your mobile device or tablet.

As a dedicated fan of a team on the other side of the country with a fat 70-inch TV on my wall, how in the world is this platform appetizing to me? I would gladly pay a fair amount of money for an entire season's worth of games to avoid the hassles with illegal streaming, but until that option is available I will not pay them a cent.

Julio Jones Signs One-Year Deal with Buccaneers

Coincidentally my last post before my hiatus was about Julio Jones' potential market and here we are a little over a year later and we're right back where we left off. Julio Jones signed a one-year deal with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Anyone living under a rock would be immediately angered by how ridiculous this WR room is with Evans, Godwin, and now Jones, however, the reality is that Julio is nowhere near the elite receiver he once was and has nosedived off the cliff during his stint as a Titan. Brady is known to squeeze the last bit of production out of aging veterans he's lured to his teams in the past a la the Antonio Brown debacle last season. I do not expect Jones to have a spectacular season as a whole, but I would not count him out as a game changer in a tight spot when the time comes.

San Francisco to Move on From Garoppolo

Jimmy Garoppolo is back in the news now that he has passed his physicals and has been granted permission to seek a trade. At this point in his career, I believe that Jimmy G is a bridge QB at best and could pair well with a solid roster that could make an appearance in the postseason. However, I am nervous about the 49ers after hearing rumors of Trey Lance's struggles last season. HC Kyle Shanahan seems to be confident now that camp has started, but I will neither confirm nor deny my support for Lance until we see him play. In the meantime, Garoppolo will have to find himself some suitors for his next job. Most positions have been filled around the league and like Baker Mayfield, Jimmy G may have a hard time finding a spot. The losers of the Mayfield sweepstakes, the Seattle Seahawks, seem like a perfect fit for Garoppolo, but it may be pricey to acquire a divisional rival's QB. Other options I'd like to float are the Falcons and Giants. Mariota and Jones are not long-term answers for their respective teams and will need to pull the trigger soon. The Falcons are low on resources with a depleted roster with many holes so it may not be ideal to trade for a QB when tanking looks like such a good idea. In my opinion, the Giants are my ideal location for Jimmy G, provided they are willing to hit the reset button on their franchise.
