Broncos' Wide Receiver Tears ACL

Yesterday the Broncos carried on the tradition of a big injury prior to their season. Breakout WR Tim Patrick was carted off the practice field and later diagnosed with a torn ACL, therefore, ending his season.

Last season Patrick put up over 700 yards and had 5 touchdowns. This year would have been his chance to prove himself as a star receiver with new quarterback Russell Wilson. This injury hinders the Broncos offense who just got back WR Jerry Jeudy who had the same thing happen to him a year ago. In not only a loaded AFC but a loaded AFC West, the Broncos need all the weapons they could amass.

In my projections, I have the Broncos in last place in the West. With every other team in the division loading up on every roster spot it seems like the Broncos believe that QB is the only important position. Denver's lack of QB scouting has led them to a place where all of the young talents they scored are aging and searching elsewhere for contracts while they cash all their chips on a shiny new toy. Just because it worked once with Peyton Manning does not mean the recipe is exact. If I am the Broncos I am looking for any replacement for Tim Patrick they can find to add some pizazz to this offense. Particularly some veteran presence to ignite their other young receivers Jeudy and Sutton.

One name I'd like to float out there is veteran WR Odell Beckham Jr. OBJ is of course looking for a real contender to join to get his second ring and is constantly having ongoing conversations about rejoining the Rams, but a chance to play with Wilson may sway his mind. Now anyone who knows me knows that I don't always speak positively about OBJ as a number one target, but Denver has enough talent to hide Odell in the roster and away from elite coverage so that he can truly shine in the shadows.
