Giants' Rookie Suffers Knee Injury, Raiders Release Veteran RB

Giants' Rookies Plagued by Knee Injuries

The title of this blog post would lead you to believe that one Giants' rookie hurt their knee, however, a whopping three of their rookies went down with injuries recently, two of which are out for the 2022 season with ACL tears.

G Marcus MeKethan and LB Darrian Beavers were both late-round draft picks so I am not worried about their impact on the Giants, but it is just disastrously coincidental to take a blow to your draft class this bad. The other major setback is the least serious, Rookie DE Kayvon Thibodeaux went down after a chop block in their last game and has since been diagnosed with an MCL sprain with a 3-4 week timeframe. The Giants' got lucky with this latest injury, being able to salvage the season for their blue-chip prospect.

Thibodeaux complained about the play that took him out claiming that the chop block was dirty. Anyone who has ever played football knows that the chop block is a legitimate strategy and totally legal despite concerns over injuring the defender. It is OK to criticize the integrity of chop blocking at the highest level of play but to call it a dirty play is, simply put, being a cry baby.

Las Vegas to Release RB Kenyan Drake

The Raiders are moving on from RB Kenyan Drake which they paid a premium for last season. Drake had a breakout year in Arizona before coming to Las Vegas. I could have told you then that overpaying for an RB that shined after an injury to the man above him on the depth chart was a bad idea. I like Drake as an RB2 as he fits that role perfectly, but teams should not be expecting large production out of him.

The Raiders are hearing preemptive trade offers before his official release, but as Drake states himself, his current contract is unappealing to suitors. Now the free agent market is a different animal, teams that inquired about his better half Josh Jacobs should look to target him as a FA in the coming weeks, these teams include the Eagles, Lions, and 49ers. Teams will likely settle for Drake as a good RB option if they are not willing to pay the Browns' price for their trade candidate Kareem Hunt. Look alive everyone RB2 season is upon us and all diehards and fantasy nuts should track these moves closely.
