Roster Deadline Highlights: NFC Edition

Today was the day all NFL teams finalized their rosters, and with so many moves I will split the important ones into NFC and AFC editions. Please note that I'm not going over every single UDFA or 4th string player that got cut, this list is not definitive.

Jimmy Garoppolo Stays with San Francisco

Surprisingly, Jimmy G will stay with the 49ers as Trey Lance's backup for 2023. The former understudy of Tom Brady will resume that role in true Alex Moran fashion. With a small market for QBs this year, this is the smartest move for both Garoppolo and San Fran. Garoppolo gets assurance and a job and the 49ers have a safety net just in case Lance doesn't work out.

Seattle Releases J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Saints Trade CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to Philadelphia

The Saints make a big move by trading CB Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the DB-needy Eagles. Philadelphia sends a 2023 5th and a 2024 6th in exchange for CGJ and a 2025 7th. This is a good trade for the Eagles as CGJ has proven himself as a good starter in the league and they pay a cheap price to the Saints in exchange for paying a fair price to CGJ. The Saints carry some cap issues and could not meet CGJ with a contract agreement so rather than let him walk they cut their losses and take what they can get.

Vikings Waive 2nd Year QB Kellen Mond

Panthers Exchange 2023 7th & 2024 6th for Jags WR Laviska Shenault

Giants Fielding Calls on WR Darius Slayton

Darius Slayton has been one of my favorite players in the league and I believe that he is massively underrated. The Giants need pieces everywhere so selling the house is not a surprise. Slayton can be a very good WR2 if paired with the right QB and will amaze if the Giants decide to move on. Because he is so under the radar he will go for cheap, likely a late-round draft pick.

Cowboys Cut QB Ben DiNucci

Chicago Releases QB Nathan Peterman and DE Mario Edwards

Eagles Release S Anthony Harris and WR Devon Allen

Cardinals Receive CB Trayvon Mullen from Raiders

New Orleans Waive QB Ian Book
