Next Man Up!: Backup QB Rankings Week Five

The more backups head to the bench the more others join the starters. Some of our favorite QBs continue to put together decent games and keep us intrigued by their play. This is the Week 5 rankings.

Next Man Up! Week Five

Back to the Bench

All good things must come to an end and so our guests must make their way back to the locker room and wait to be called upon once more.

Case Keenum, BUF 1-0 (5)
Most Recent Performance: 0%, 0yds

Malik Willis, TEN 0-1 (6)
Most Recent Performance: 25%, 6yds

Joe Flacco ⭐️, NYJ 1-2 (2)
Most Recent Performance: 53.8%, 285yds, 0 TD, 2 INT

Tyrod Taylor, NYG 1-0 (10)
Most Recent Performance: 67%, 11yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

Brian Hoyer, NE 0-1 (9)
Most Recent Performance: 83.3%, 37yds, 0 TD

Saquon Barkley ⭐️, NYG 1-0 (8)
Most Recent Performance: 0%, 0yds, 0 TD

With the return of QB Daniel Jones, the Giants' QB room heads back to the bench... well, except Saquon Barkley who returns to full-time running back duty. Hoyer also heads back to the bench after rookie Bailey Zappe showed that he can handle the reigns until Mac Jones' return.

The Rankings

9. Teddy Bridgewater, MIA 1-2 (3)
Most Recent Performance: 0%, 0yds, 0 TD

Bridgewater leaves early with a concussion. He has cleared protocol but will serve as emergency QB next week just to avoid negative press from repeating the Tua incident.

8. Skylar Thompson, MIA 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 57.6%, 166yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

After yet another Miami QB goes down with a concussion, Thompson stepped in to take a hefty beating by the New York Jets. You can't blame him however due to their biggest weapons Jaylen waddle and Tyreek Hill being injured. Thompson is confirmed to get the start next week against Minnesota.

7. P.J. Walker, CAR 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 83.3%, 60yds, 0 TD

Finally, we get to see someone other than Baker Mayfield under center in Carolina. Mayfield went down with an ankle injury versus the 49ers and is expected to miss a couple weeks. Walker, the XFL legend, will take over as the tank commander in his absence. I hope that Carolina turns into a fun team to watch a la last year's Lions where they play solely for moral victories.

6. Kenny Pickett, PIT 0-2 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 65.4%, yds, 327yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

Pickett isn't as exciting as you think he'd be being a first-round pick. His numbers look decent until I realize the Steelers make him throw 50 times a game. The Bills are also a hard first start for a rookie so hopefully, he can get some footing this week against the Buccaneers. Actually, scratch that, we wish you luck Kenny.

5. Jacoby Brissett , CLE 2-3 (2)
Most Recent Performance: 61.8%, 230yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

Brissett causes the Browns to have another heartbreaking loss. He threw a RedZone interception in the 4th quarter against the Chargers with the game on the line and then somehow wasn't able to set up his kicker well enough on the final drive gifted by Brandon Staley. I am officially hopping off the Brissett train and if he keeps this up, he will continue to fall in my rankings.

4. Andy Dalton, NO 1-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 66.7%, 187yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

Dalton helps survive a shootout with the Seahawks on the back of QB/TE Taysom Hill's 4 TD performance. Dalton has served his purpose going .500 and looks to return to the bench next week if Jameis Winston's recovery goes as planned.

3. Bailey Zappe ⭐️⭐️, NE 1-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 81.0%, 188yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

Zappe earns another Gold Star Performance this week after leading a 29-0 shutout against Detroit. This was a solid first start for the rookie as he holds his own in a game that the Patriots were always expected to win.

2. Jimmy Garoppolo, SF 3-1 (0)
Most Recent Performance: 60%, 253yds, 2 TD

Ugh, Jimmy G is still leading his team to victories. The 49ers thrashed the Panthers Sunday afternoon and caused them to fire their coach. This team is starting to look like the perennial playoff team that ends up beating the Packers. I'm also starting to think even less of the idea of drafting a QB in the first round and maybe they should have just continued building a monster.

1. Cooper Rush ⭐️⭐️⭐️, DAL 4-1 (0)
Most Recent Performance: 62.5%, 102yds, 0 TD

Good Ol' Coop continues his undefeated starts with a big fat W over the defending Super Bowl champions and earns another Gold Star Performance. Dak Prescott also returns to practice, BUT he is unlikely to play on SNF in a huge matchup against the 5-0 Eagles. Can Rush step up to the plate and take the lead in the NFC East?
