Next Man Up! Backup QB Rankings Week Sixteen

As the season quickly heads to a close more and more teams are defaulting to backups to help them coast to the post/offseason, here's how they stand up.

We have confirmed that Jeff Driskel is a Taysom Hill clone and he is banned from the list until further notice.

The Rankings

15. Nick Foles, IND 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 58.6%, 143yds, 0 TD, 3 INT

Harsh outing for the former Super Bowl MVP. Nick Foles was terrorized by the Chargers' defense and in exchange gifted them a trip to the playoffs. Foles was sacked SEVEN times and threw THREE interceptions in a commonplace loss for the Colts.

14. Nathan Peterman, CHI 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 60%, 25yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

The Peter-man makes an appearance against the Bills in a short leave of Justin Fields. We all know that it wouldn't have been a true Peterman drive without capping it off with an interception.

13. Malik Willis, TEN 1-4 (2)
Most Recent Performance: 60.9%, 99yds, 1 TOT TD, 2 INT

Malik Willis lost to the Texans.

At least I am relieved to see that Dobbs started on TNF and I hope this is a sign that they have given up on trying to make Willis work in Tennessee.

12. Chris Streveler, NYJ 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 66.7%, 90yds, 0 TD

Streveler comes in as the fourth QB to take action for the Jets this year after Zach Wilson was benched mid-game for being a bad QB. He did not impress and was ultimately a warm body. At least Mike white is cleared to play this weekend and will try to help New York get back on track to the playoffs.

11. Desmond Ridder, ATL 0-2 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 66.7%, 218yds, 0 TD

Ridder helps to eliminate the Falcons from playoff contention by dinking and dunking against the Ravens in a very winnable game. It is obvious that he is not the answer in Atlanta and if it wasn't for Marcus Mariota quitting on the team I would have switched back after his poor play last week.

10. Trace McSorley, ARI 0-3 (0)
Most Recent Performance: 53.3%, 217yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

This loss is not on McSorely for once. The Cardinals fell victim to Tom Brady's two minute drill where he turns back the clock as time runs out. That being said it is not like he put Arizona in a position to win either.

9. Brett Rypien, DEN 1-3 (3)
Most Recent Performance: 50%, 45yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

I expected Rypien to be benched entirely this week, but it seems he asked for one more taste of the field for Christmas and Santa decided he was a good boy. Bad outing ending in an INT that hurts his stock as a Next Man.

8. Tyler Huntley, BAL 3-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 52.9%, 115yds, 1 TD

Huntley and the Ravens clinch a playoff spot, but I don't want to talk about the game. Tyler Huntley, the 2nd string QB who has played in four games, has been listed as a PRO BOWL ALTERNATE. As it stands, he is the 4th alternate meaning he was the SEVENTH most-voted QB in the AFC. Assuming the three between Huntley and the Starters are some combination of Justin Herbert, Tua Tagvailoa, and Lamar Jackson, this means that he received more votes than solid NFL starters like Ryan Tannehill and Trevor Lawrence which is just bonkers

7. Kenny Pickett, PIT 5-5 (0)
Most Recent Performance: 66.7%, 244yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

I never thought I'd say this but I love you, Kenny Pickett. I'd like to take this time to appreciate his development and furthermore defeating the Raiders which ultimately allowed my Chargers to clinch a playoff spot on MNF. Pickett has played well in the later half of this season and came back solid after being out with a concussion.

6. Andy Dalton ⭐️⭐️⭐️, NO 5-6 (3)
Most Recent Performance  53.3%, 92yds, 0 TD, 1 INT

Andy Dalton's fiery fro kept him warm in freezing temperatures during the showdown against Cleveland. Down 10-3 at the half, the Saints' offense bounced back with 2 TDs in the third quarter to narrowly keep their playoff pipe dream alive.

5. Sam Darnold ⭐️⭐️⭐️, CAR 3-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 68.2%, 250yds, 2 TOT TD

Darnold keeps Carolina's playoff hopes alive in a must-win game against the Lions and earns a GSP for leadership. A lot of help from the Lions' rush defense kept the Panthers in control and keeps Carolina a spicy playoff hopeful.

4. Baker Mayfield ⭐️⭐️, LAR 2-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 85.7%, 230yds, 2 TD

Shake N Bake dropped a fifty-burger on the Broncos so of course, he gets a GSP for Christmas. Letting Mayfield dice up your team is a good reason to fire your HC and the Broncos continue to dive into the darkness.

3. Taylor Heinicke ⭐️⭐️⭐️, WSH 5-3-1 (1)
Most Recent Performance: 72.2%, 166yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

I'm just going to say it. Ron Rivera benched Heinicke for Wentz midgame. Look at his stats, not bad at all. Just why? Why would you do this to me Ron? Heinicke may not be the future of the franchise, but he's damn sure better than Wentz. I am DISGUSTED.

2. Gardner Minshew ⭐️, PHI 0-1 (NR)
Most Recent Performance: 60%, 355yds, 3 TOT TD, 2 INT

Minshew-mania is on again as Gardner Minshew looks to close out the season for the Eagles and help them clinch the 1 seed in the NFC. Minshew played his heart out with a GSP in an ultimately losing effort against the Cowboys. Playing up to his competition, he was able to keep Philly in the game until the very end. He still has plenty of time to seal the deal, but if he can't keep it up this week against the Saints, we may be singing a different tune.

1. Brock Purdy ⭐️⭐️⭐️, SF 4-1 (0)
Most Recent Performance: 68.2%, 234yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

Purdy plays purdy football and easily defeats the Commanders in his hunt for home-field advantage. If the Eagles cannot get back on track with Minshew, the Niners will be in the driver's seat in the NFC and we could see another impressive run for San Francisco.

New Challenger Approaching!

As we all should know, Raiders' QB Derek Carr has been benched for Jarrett Stidham who will make his debut against Brock Purdy and the 49ers. Stidham was a preseason darling for New England and he now gets to show the world what he's got in a win-or-go-home scenario.
