Patriots Trade TE Jonnu Smith to Atlanta for 7th Round Pick
Years ago the Patriots spent big on TEs signing both Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith for about $12 million a piece. Now the Pats make a smart decision and offload the lesser of the two to free up some cap. New England made sure to do right by Smith and reunites him with his former OC and current ATL HC Arthur Smith. For Atlanta, this trade does not make total sense to me, but at least the Falcons are able to restructure Smith down to a proper backup salary.
Washington Makes Daron Payne 2nd Highest Paid DT
The first franchise tag to resolve is Washington's Daron Payne. The Commanders hand Payne a massive 4-year $90 million contract. In my opinion, this is a massive overpay for their 3rd-at-best defensive linemen. Payne has the ceiling, but he is at a huge risk to underperform and put the Commies in a bad spot.
Matt Milano Gets Two-Year Extension from Buffalo
The Bills keep at least one of their core defensive players by giving LB Matt Milano an undisclosed 2-year deal. Milano was ranked the 13th-best LB by PFF and with the 5th-best LB Tremaine Edmunds likely leaving the Bills in free agency, Milano became a must-sign for the team.
