Falcons Bench Cousins, Penix to Start Against Giants

After a hot 6-3 start the Atlanta Falcons have lost 4 out of their last 5 games. The team has identified the cause of their issues to their big offseason addition QB Kirk Cousins.

After signing Cousins to a massive $180m contract the football was surprised to see them draft Washington QB Michael Pennix Jr. with the 8th overall pick. We will now see how their insurance plan works out.

Cousins has had a 1-9 TD-to-INT ratio over the last five games which directly contribute to two tight losses against the Chargers and Saints. Taking them from competing in the NFC South to barely hanging on in the wildcard race. This moves to me signals that the Falcons are punting on the season and want to see what they have in their rookie.

It has come full circle as Cousins was drafted as QB insurance three rounds after Washington selected RGIII where he eventually outcompeted and took over and now Pennix is taking his job. Cousins is due $40m next season and the Falcons will have to take a huge cap hit if they decide to part ways with him in the offseason. Cousins should still be hot on the market as a bridge QB should he decide to continue his NFL career.
